Because of an editing error, an article on June 2 about the disappearance of an Air France jet en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris misattributed a quotation about possible causes and rendered it incorrectly. The comment was by Julien Gourguechon, a long-time Air France pilot, not by Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, the chief executive officer of Air France-KLM, and it should have been rendered as two separate statements — “Lightning alone is not enough to explain the loss of this plane,” and “Turbulence alone isn’t enough” — rather than as one statement.

Corrections

And the article misidentified the parts of the plane that were likely to be of concern in case of electrical failure during flight. Those are the aileron, rudder and elevators — not the flaps. (The flaps are used in takeoffs and landings.).

An article on Wednesday about a two-year freeze on deportations of foreign widows and widowers of American citizens misstated United States law regarding eligibility for permanent residency for foreign spouses of American citizens. There is in fact no requirement that their marriage span two years before the foreign spouse is eligible. (The government has argued, however, that the foreign spouse loses eligibility should the American spouse die within two years of marriage and before immigration authorities have ruled on a petition for residency.).

An illustration on May 31 with an article about the many successful people who, like Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, grew up in New York’s public housing projects erroneously included a jazz musician, using information from the New York City Housing Authority. Thelonious Monk grew up in the Phipps Houses, a private housing complex  not the nearby public Amsterdam Houses.

The Wealth Matters column on May 30, about investors who find potential bargains in bonds, real estate and other assets, misstated the level of the major American equity indexes relative to when Barack Obama was inaugurated as president in January. The Dow Jones industrial average, Nasdaq and the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index were all higher at close of trading on May 29 than they were on Jan. 16, the last day of trading before Mr. Obama’s inauguration  not lower.

The Media Equation column on Monday, about the possible value of The Boston Globe, referred incorrectly to the paper’s circulation. The Globe, owned by The New York Times Company, has a weekday circulation of 300,000 copies  not 300,000 readers.
