Jeffrey Edward Epstein was an American financier and child sex offender, who victimized hundreds if not thousands of teenaged girls. Born and raised in New York City, Epstein began his professional career as a teacher at the Dalton School, despite lacking a college degree. After his dismissal from the school in 1976, he entered the banking and finance sector, working at Bear Stearns in various roles before starting his own firm. Epstein cultivated an elite social circle and procured many women and children whom he and his associates sexually abused.

Typhoon Lekima, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Hanna, was the fourth costliest typhoon in Chinese history. The ninth named storm of the 2019 Pacific typhoon season, Lekima originated from a tropical depression that formed east of the Philippines on 30 July. It gradually organized, became a tropical storm, and was named on 4 August. Lekima intensified under favorable environmental conditions and peaked as a Category 4âequivalent Super typhoon. However, an eyewall replacement cycle caused the typhoon to weaken before it made landfall in Zhejiang early on 10 August, as a Category 2âequivalent typhoon. Lekima weakened subsequently while moving across Eastern China, and made its second landfall in Shandong on 11 August.

The 2019 BĂŠrum murder and mosque attack occurred on 10 August 2019 at the Al-Noor Islamic Centre in BĂŠrum, Norway, about 20 kilometres (12Â mi) west of the capital city Oslo. Philip Manshaus, a 21-year-old Norwegian man, murdered his 17-year-old adopted sister Johanne Ihle-Hansen at their home. He then drove to the mosque and shot his way through the glass door before opening fire, hitting no one. He was subdued by three worshipers after a scuffle and turned over to police. He attempted to livestream the shooting, but failed.
