Judge W R Mansfield finds RWDSU official L J Overton, Assemblyman Jack, other RWDSU officials and businessmen competing with Harlem River Consumer Co-op called strike to force co-op to go out of business because of its refusal to deal with Coordinated Community Service, in which Overton and Jack reptdly own substantial concealed interest; ruling is preliminary and case must still go to trial before permanent injunction can take effect but defendants are enjoined from 'engaging in conduct' that will hinder co-op's business

Sec of Urban Physicians releases 24-page rept charging that hundreds af preventable deaths annually in 18 munic hosps are being caused by critical shortage of nurses; urges immediate moves by city and state health officials to make life in NYC more attractive to induce nurses to remain; contend pub hosps have less than 40% of staff nurses officially authorized and that some hosps have less than 10%; specific situations mentioned in rept detailed; English backs drs assertion and says that nurse shortage is biggest problem facing city hosps; other calls for remedial action by Com of Internes and Residents, NYS Nurses Assn and State County and Munic Employes Union recalled; Dr F Mullen, Com of Internes and Residents exec, says com might use its documentation in legal action to improve situation

Buffalo State Univ repts that Drs J F Danielli, K W Jeon and I J Lorch have achieved 1st artificial synthesis of living and reproducing cell in experiments in which amoebas were partly dismembered and reassembled using components from other amoebas (W Sullivan rept); reconstituted amoebas reptdly survived, reproduced and were indistinguishable from normal amoebas; experimenters say experiments go beyond those of Dr J Gurdon (Oxford U), who implanted nucleus of body cell from 1 frog in egg cell of another; outline amoeba experiment; contend it should be possible to remove parts of cell, subject them to tests and reinsert them to sec if their functions are affected; preliminary work was described in Mar 20 issue of Science (pub); further details to be released Dec 7
