tesimony in Mitchell-Stans trial ends on Apr 22; John W Dean 3d testifies, as Govt rebuttal witness, that he never advised Stans, as Stans has testified, that Stans withhold information about Robert Vesco's $200,000 cash contribution to Pres Nixon's campaign from SEC; testifies that at meeting at NYC club between Dean, Mitchell and Stans that Stans said he could get SEC to eliminate all mention of $200,000 from its formal charges against Vesco; Stans has testified that it was G Bradford Cook, then SEC counsel, who suggested that mention of contribution be eliminated from SEC charges; Washington Post reporter Sally Quinn testifies that on Mar 8 '72, at about 8 PM, she spoke to Mitchell at cocktail party reception given in Washington hotel before Repub fund-raising dinner; Daniel W Hofgren, a Nixon fund-raiser, has testified that at that cocktail party he met Mitchell and was told by him to 'stay out' of Vesco-SEC case; Mitchell denied to grand jury that he told this to Hofgren and said he arrived too late at diner to attend cocktail party; Walter E Hanson, sr partner in acctg firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co, testifies that Stans asked firm to donate to Nixon campaign before new campaign disclosure law went into effect on Apr 7 '72; Mitchell has testified at trial that he did not ask potential contributors to get their money in before Apr 7; Hanson says firm did not make contribution; in all, jury has heard, in 42 trial days, 59 witnesses, 45 of them solely for Govt; 15 persons testified for defense, 3 testified for each side (M)
