YALA, Thailand, June 21—In the volatile border region of southern Thailand and northern Malaysia, officials say they are trying, as they have been for 20 years, to contend with guerrilla operations by a mixture of Communist guerrillas from Malaysia, Thai Communists, Moslem separatists and bands of bandits.
