In one of the largest acquisition proposals in the nation's history, the General Electric Company, the nation's largest maker of electric products and power equipment, announced last night that it was planning to take over Utah International Inc., a major United States mining company.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 15—Senator Frank Church acknowledged today that the Senate Select. Committee on Intelligence Operations had uncovered evidence that President Kennedy and two reputed organized crime leaders had a close friendship with the same woman in 1961 and 1962. But he denied published suggestions that the committee had tried to cover up information about the matter.

DUBLIN — A major dispute over the scale of American fund‐raising for the Irish Republican Army has pitted officials in the United States, Britain and Ireland against a Bronx‐based relief organization for Roman Catholic women and children in Ulster.

ALBANY, Tuesday, Dec. 16—With less than an hour to spare before the deadline, the Legislature voted last night to keep the Housing Finance Agency and two other state agencies out of default for another month as Governor Carey dropped his insistence on an immediate Republican agreement on new taxes to close the state budget gap. The Assembly vote was 120 to 15, and in the Senate the vote was 53 to 1.

The Board of Higher Education, its hope for a reprieve from City Hall and for emergency state funds at least temporarily exhausted, last night voted to cut $54.6 million from the university system's springterm budget. It also voted to impose minimum admission standards for all new students, starting next fall.
