HARTFORD N Wednesday, when Governor Grasso opens the new session of the General Assembly, she will be faced with the prospect of more clangor and serious contention than any Governor of Connecticut has faced in recent memory. Four of the five people in both parties who have openly declared their determination to unseat her as Governor will be among the legislators gathered to hear her. One of them, Lieut. Gov. Robert K. Killian, the leader ‘ of the mutiny In the Governor's Democratic Party. will be at her side.

FOR Lowell Thomas, 1977 was rather a typical year. He lectured, he traveled, he appeared on radio and television. He met with dignitaries like King Hussein; he attended reunions with old comrades, like the men who raided Tokyo in 1942. He looked after his business interests, which consist the list is not complete — of broadcasting, film and newspaper properties; he guarded his seniority as an Alpine skier. He journeyed down the Yangtze gorges, up the slopes of Mount Everest and into the fastness Tibet. Though “Lowell Thomas and the News” had gone off the air in 1976 after 46 years, the longest run the history of broadcasting, Mr. Thomas did not let time hang heavy on his hands. He wrote some more books. The total now stands at 54. The three published in 1977 include two volumes of autobiography, the latest being “So Long Until Tomorrow.” And Mr. Thomas got married.
