Among other things, Mr. Van Peebles wrote and starred in the movie &#8220;Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song,&#8221; and wrote, produced and directed the Broadway play &#8220;Don't Play Us Cheap.&#8221; So, surprise! Mr. Van Peebles and Mildred Kayden have written &#8220;Becky,&#8221; a musical version &#8220;Vanity Fair,&#8221; and it will be done in London next year. So, surprise again. he has persuaded Glenda Jackson to be the star of &#8220;Becky.&#8221; Miss Jackson will play Becky Sharp, of course, and she is cultivating her singing voice now. &#8220;Becky&#8221; will be produced by Mr. Van Peebles, along with Eddie Kulukundis and perhaps another producer as well, and it is supposed to go into rehearsal next May. He was also leader of the People's Party, a social-liberal party which at the time was the largest party in opposition to the governing Social Democratic Party, from 1944 to 1967.
