"Those arrested confessed to the charges, which include providing arms and ammunition to the M.P.R.P.," Mr. [Hassan Yazdani] said. "They had also promised they would stage a coup." The front-runner in the presidential race, Economics Minister Abolhassan Banff-Sadr, today criticized a decision not to allow Mr. [Rajavi] time on state radio and television. "I don't agree with it; it s quite wrong" he said. Mr. Banff-Sadr made his comments before Ayatollah Khomeini's order was broadcast. "My definition of independence is to be independent of both superpowers at the same time," he said in an interview. "If we join one against the other, it would weaken our front against those ers and their policy of domination."
