With "Jurassic Park" on its way to megahit status at movie theater box offices and megahype conditions in the world of licensed spinoff products, some jewelers and museum store operators are looking forward to a surge in amber sales. The soft gem, which is actually fossilized tree sap rather than a mineral like an emerald or ruby, has been traded and worn as jewelry for thousands of years. But it is still relatively unknown outside the Northern European countries around the Baltic Sea, where the largest deposits of gem-quality amber, ranging from 30 to 70 million years old, are found.

In a move to strengthen its growing presence in the United States, British Airways has joined with the Chase Manhattan Bank to issue a joint Visa credit card that will earn users frequent-flier miles on international and domestic United States flights. Most major United States airlines have similar affinity cards with banks, for which card owners typically pay an annual fee of $50 and accrue one frequent-flier mile for every dollar charged. This is the first such arrangement between a big American bank and a large foreign airline.

The Economy The Clinton Administration wants businesses to report money they spend on services to the I.R.S. in an effort to help the Government track down tax cheats. Business groups say it would be a waste of time. [ Page A1. ] A growing number of Catholic schools have turned to an array of aggressive and sophisticated fund-raising techniques. Through a combination of cultivating alumni, writing proposals to corporations and foundations and marketing their institutions to prospective students and donors, they are fighting for survival in ways that were virtually unheard of a decade ago. How much more information can the public realistically absorb about Princess Diana's tearful tantrums, Prince Charles's odd disassociation from reality and Fergie's topless tryst with her toe-sucking boyfriend? That is the question being asked by five publishers who have put out books about the British royal family within the last month, flooding a market that once seemed practically bottomless. The books range from "Diana vs. Charles: Royal Blood Feud," a quick-hit, scandal-filled account by the British journalist James Whitaker, to "The Rise and Fall of the House of Windsor," a wry and relatively sober discussion of the future of the monarchy by A. N. Wilson that actually uses footnotes.

Seth Greenberg had come to the courtroom of Judge Benjamin Wm. Mehlman this morning to plead his case, and it was not going well. Seems that on the evening of June 11, the village police, responding to a complaint that people were speaking loudly inside the house Mr. Greenberg was renting at 535 Bayberry Walk, issued him a summons for "shouting and yelling." And now, Judge Mehlman was uttering the words that had fallen so heavily on so many ears over the years in this wary seaside community on Fire Island known better for its bylaws than its beaches. "I find you guilty," he said.
