Variety reported that the coming boxed set compiling the monaural mixes of the Fab Four’s original albums, part of an octopus’s garden’s worth of new Beatles products to be released on Wednesday, had already proved so popular that EMI will produce more copies of the collection. The 13-CD, $299 set, “The Beatles in Mono,” was supposed to be limited to 10,000 copies, but quickly sold out at many online stores. (Unlike the coming stereo remasters of the Beatles albums, which will be sold individually, the mono versions will be available only in the boxed set.) A spokeswoman for EMI told Variety that retailers that sold out of their initial allotment of “The Beatles in Mono” would be sent more, but did not say how many additional copies would be made.

It’s All Too Much: More ‘Beatles in Mono’

Though the writer and director Tyler Perry is best known for working with his own material — the titles of his seven feature films to date have all started with his name — he has agreed to make his first movie adaptation: Mr. Perry, right, will write, direct and produce a film version of Ntozake Shange’s play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf,” The Hollywood Reporter said. The play is presented as a series of poems about subjects like love, sex, abortion and rape, delivered by a seven-woman ensemble. It was first performed in California in 1975, then brought to the New Federal Theater in New York and later to the Public Theater and the Booth Theater on Broadway, in a version produced by Joseph Papp. A 1982 television version produced for “American Playhouse” featured Alfre Woodard, Lynn Whitfield and Patti LaBelle. No casting for Mr. Perry’s film, which Lionsgate plans for a 2010 release, has been announced.
